Schultz Community Technology Grant
Smarter systems for organizations making a difference.
Each cycle, Schultz Consulting selects one or two local greater Boston area nonprofit and community organizations and builds a defined technology project for them at no cost.
Greater Boston organizations will be prioritised, but anyone is welcome to apply!
The program
A focused project, delivered to professional standards.
Many small organizations do meaningful work with limited technical resources. Volunteers, donations, scheduling, intake forms, and repetitive administrative work often run on spreadsheets, paper, and workarounds.
The Schultz Community Technology Grant exists to fix one of those problems properly. Selected organizations receive a clearly scoped project. Designed, built, tested, and documented the same way a paying client would, contributed at no charge.
Who can apply
Small organizations with real community impact.
The strongest candidates are organizations that depend heavily on volunteers, donations, and manual administrative work. You do not need to be a 501(c)(3) to apply.
Food & community programs
Food pantries, community meal programs, and mutual-aid groups.
Youth & education
After-school programs, mentoring, and youth development organizations.
Animal welfare
Shelters and rescue groups managing intake, fostering, and adoptions.
Veterans & seniors
Veterans' organizations and senior or disability-support programs.
Faith & community service
Faith-based community programs and volunteer emergency-service groups.
Arts, culture & environment
Small arts, cultural, historical, and local environmental organizations.
What you receive
One clearly defined project, delivered properly.
Each project focuses on solving one clear operational problem.
Up to $3,000
Selected organizations may receive up to $3,000 in donated consulting and development services.
- An initial technology and workflow assessment
- One clearly defined, scoped project
- Up to 15–25 donated consulting and development hours
- Training and documentation for your team
- 30 days of limited follow-up support
Example projects:
- A volunteer scheduling and reminder system
- Replacing paper intake forms with digital forms
- Automating confirmation and reminder emails
- Improving a dated or hard-to-use website
- A simple donor, member, or inventory tracker
- Organizing scattered spreadsheets and records
- Dashboards for donations, inventory, or participation
- A basic technology and cybersecurity review
How it works
From application to a working system.
Selection
Each cycle, one or two organizations are selected. Not every applicant will be chosen, and applications carry over for consideration.
Assess & scope
We review your workflow together and define exactly what will be built, so expectations are clear from the start.
Build & hand off
The solution is developed, tested, documented, and handed off with training and 30 days of follow-up support.
Good to know
A few things that keep this fair and workable.
- Projects must have a defined, agreed-upon scope.
- Not every applicant will be selected.
- Your organization owns the finished deliverables.
- Publicity is optional and only happens with your permission.
- Ongoing maintenance is separate from the donated project.
- Highly regulated or mission-critical systems may not qualify.
